Previous to 2002 the Gregson Lane and Higher Walton Methodist Churches were independent although in the same circuit and with the same Minister. Each of the church buildings were urgently in need of restoration and it was decided that instead of doing costly repairs to each, we would explore the possibility of amalgamating our churches with the construction of a new church on a suitable site.
After looking at various possibilities the former Gregson Lane site was found to be the best alternative, and a new church built on the ‘footprint’ of the old church. So fund raising was started under the banner of ‘Forward in Faith 2002’.
The fund raising was blessed with lot’s of dedicated people, support from the Circuit and the Circuit Churches, and other organizations.
There then came the point where we had to decide on a new name that was jointly acceptable to both congregations. The name of Trinity Methodist Church was chosen since we were in fact amalgamating members from Gregson Lane, Higher Walton, and Walton-le-Dale churches. The first service in the new building was on 31st August 2002.
Trinity now has the war memorial plaques from Higher Walton and Walton-le-Dale Methodist Churches on display.
